Gender neurtal pronouns for book?

First off...I don't know what 'ey' means...secondly...use describing adjectives. "Addison!" I called as the (insert adjective here) child toddled towards me. Or 'as the wonderful being' as the 'neutral kindered spirit'. Simply use adjectives when speaking of the child, no pronouns, specifics or names. :)
